MUNICH, April 8, 2026

Just days before the start of the 2026 BMW Open by Bitpanda, the tournament fields continue to take shape – and both the ATP event and the Allianz Para Trophy promise exceptional quality.

The Allianz Para Trophy, which has become one of the highlights of the week in Munich, returns from April 16 to 18 as an official event on the UNIQLO Wheelchair Tennis Tour. New this year is its elevation to 500-category status, along with the introduction of a Quad Division for the first time.

Eight players will compete in the Quad singles draw, alongside the already established Open Division. The new event immediately brings together the very best in the world, with the top three players in the current Quad rankings all set to compete in Munich.

Leading the field is world No. 1 Niels Vink of the Netherlands. The 23-year-old, who lost both legs and several bones in his hands due to illness, has already completed the career Golden Slam by winning every Grand Slam title and Paralympic gold. He arrives as one of the main title favourites alongside fellow Dutchman and doubles partner Sam Schroder, the current world No. 2, and Israel’s Guy Sasson, ranked No. 3.

The Open Division also features established stars. Among them is Argentina’s Gustavo Fernandez, a former Roland Garros and Wimbledon champion who has previously lifted the trophy in Munich.

The addition of the Quad event marks an important step in the development of the tournament. In Quad wheelchair tennis, players compete with impairments in at least three limbs, requiring further adaptations in both technique and equipment.

“The introduction of the Quad competition is an important step in continuing to promote inclusion in para sport and to offer even more athletes a stage,” said Manuel Duhnke, Head of Sponsoring at Allianz. “We are proud that the Allianz Para Trophy is helping make wheelchair tennis accessible to a broader audience.”

Tournament director Mischa Zverev also highlighted the significance of the event.

“Thanks to Allianz, the Para Trophy has developed into one of the highlights of the Wheelchair Tennis Tour in recent years,” Zverev said. “With the introduction of the Quad competition and such a strong field, we can look forward to a tournament that sets new standards and brings people together.”

Beyond the matches themselves, youth development will also be in focus. On April 16, Allianz will organise a special training session for children and teenagers, led by Mischa Zverev and German national wheelchair tennis coach Niklas Höfken, introducing young participants to para sport and wheelchair tennis.

Meanwhile, the ATP tournament is also preparing for its strongest edition yet.

The first two wild cards for the main draw have been awarded to Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann and Jan-Lennard Struff. Hanfmann, currently ranked No. 55 in the world, reached the final in Santiago earlier this season and has previously made the quarter-finals in Munich. Struff returns to the venue where he won the first ATP title of his career in 2024 and will once again be one of the local favourites.

The doubles draw is equally impressive. Top seeds Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz will chase the title after finishing runners-up in both 2023 and 2025. Alexander Zverev is set to play doubles alongside former world-class doubles specialist Marcelo Melo. Francisco Cerundolo, Luciano Darderi and Arthur Rinderknech are also entered.

The singles field at the BMW Open by Bitpanda is stronger than ever before. Seven of the world’s top 20 players will compete in Munich from April 11 to 19, a first in the history of the tournament.

The entry list is headed by Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton and Alexander Bublik. They are joined by Flavio Cobolli, Jiri Lehecka, Luciano Darderi and Francisco Cerundolo. Rising Brazilian star Joao Fonseca and Greek favourite Stefanos Tsitsipas will both make their first appearances in Munich, while Denis Shapovalov, Hubert Hurkacz and Marin Cilic complete a field packed with international talent.

Taylor Fritz has unfortunately withdrawn because of injury.

With world-class tennis guaranteed from the opening round onward, a limited number of tickets for the first four days of the tournament remain available.
