CHISINAU, May 28, 2026
Franco Agamenone moved into the quarterfinals of the Moldova Open on Thursday with a convincing straight-sets victory over Belgium’s Kimmer Coppejans. The Italian, born in Argentina, defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-3 at the ATP Challenger Tour 100 event in Chisinau.
Playing under difficult windy conditions once again at the National Tennis Center, Agamenone broke serve seven times and sealed the win in one hour and 32 minutes.
“It was difficult to play in these windy conditions today. You needed to be focused all the time, but I managed it pretty well and won the match,” Agamenone told Tennis TourTalk afterwards.
“It’s my first time here in Chisinau. The tennis complex here is very nice. We have indoor hard courts as well as the outdoor clay courts. Without the wind, conditions would be perfect to play tennis here.
“I went to the city centre twice to have some dinner. The local food is very good and we are enjoying our stay.”
The 33-year-old, who captured his sixth Challenger career crown in Buenos Aires in January, will now face local favourite Radu Albot. The 36-year-old Chisinau native delighted the home crowd by reaching the last eight with a hard-fought comeback victory over No. 8 seed Timofey Skatov of Kazakhstan.
The Moldovan wild card recovered from a one-sided opening set to prevail 1-6, 6-1, 6-4 after two hours and 31 minutes. Albot converted five of his 10 break-point opportunities and won 51 per cent of the total points played.
Elsewhere, Britain’s Liam Broady battled past fourth seed Daniil Glinka of Estonia 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 23 minutes. The world No. 219 will next meet Romanian qualifier Cezar Cretu, who came from behind to defeat Russia’s Pavel Kotov 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 in a match lasting two hours and 16 minutes.
