EASTBOURNE/STARNBERG, June 28, 2026

Belgium’s Zizou Bergs captured the biggest title of his career on Sunday, defeating sixth-seeded Frenchman Ugo Humbert 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to win the Lexus Eastbourne Open and lift his first ATP Tour trophy.

The 27-year-old completed a remarkable turnaround after arriving in Eastbourne on a six-match tour-level losing streak. With the victory, Bergs also became the first Belgian man to win an ATP Tour title on grass.

The final had begun on Saturday but was suspended after only three games because of rain. When play resumed on Sunday, Humbert claimed the opening set, but Bergs responded emphatically. The Lommel native dominated the second set before maintaining his composure in a closely contested decider to seal a memorable victory after two hours and four minutes.

“Thank you to my team,” Bergs said. “We make a great team. We make fun together and we definitely work together really well to always improve. If the results are not there, we keep focusing on improving, and that’s why we’re here today standing with the trophy.”

It was a long-awaited breakthrough for Bergs, who had previously fallen short in ATP Tour finals at Auckland and ‘s-Hertogenbosch last season. This time, the world No. 48 made the most of his third opportunity, producing one of the finest weeks of his career. Bergs pocketed €117.685 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points.

Bergs and Humbert will now play a re-match of this contest at Wimbledon after they were drawn to play against each other in the first round at the All England Club.
