BERGAMO/STARNBERG, June 28, 2026
Five years after lifting the trophy as one of Italy’s brightest young prospects, Federico Arnaboldi returned to the top step of the podium at the Trofeo TNB-Azimut in Bergamo. The 26-year-old became the first player in the tournament’s ten editions to win the title twice, defeating fellow Italian Giovanni Oradini 6-0, 7-5 in Sunday’s final.
The victory marks an important milestone in Arnaboldi’s comeback after a difficult period on the ATP Tour. Just a year ago, the former ATP Challenger champion was competing inside the world’s Top 200 before a prolonged run of disappointing results saw his ranking fall to No. 586. With no ranking points to defend over the next three months, the Bergamo title could prove to be the springboard for a return up the rankings.
Arnaboldi was in complete control for much of the final, racing through the opening set before extending his lead to 6-0, 4-1. Oradini, who was playing in front of his parents, mounted an impressive comeback to level the second set at 5-5, but Arnaboldi held firm in the closing stages to secure his fifth career title and fourth on the ITF World Tennis Tour.
“I started the match at a very high level with very few unforced errors and we prepared the tactics well,” Arnaboldi said afterwards. “At 4-1 in the second set I relaxed a little, he raised his level and the heat and a long week caught up with me. But even at 5-5 I knew I would still have my chances. I played three really solid points at the right moment and managed to close it out.”
The Italian admitted that the title comes after a challenging six months on the circuit.
“I feel much better than I did at the end of last year, even if the results haven’t fully reflected it yet. This week I played really well and my goal remains the same: I want to get back to playing Grand Slam qualifying as soon as possible.”
Arnaboldi had little time to celebrate, immediately travelling to Milan to compete in the qualifying draw of the ATP Challenger at the Aspria Harbour Club, hoping to build on the momentum from his triumph in Bergamo.
For Oradini, the final capped another strong week after an impressive semifinal victory over Pietro Romeo Scomparin. The former Mississippi State University standout continues his efforts to climb back towards his career-high ranking and will now head to the Istrian clay-court swing in Umag and Trieste.
The 10th edition of the Trofeo TNB-Azimut once again delivered a week of high-quality tennis at the Tennis Club Città dei Mille, with organizers already looking ahead to Bergamo’s ATP Challenger event next February.
