Spain’s Ariana Geerlings captured the title at the second edition of the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships on Sunday, defeating Czech teenager Laura Samson 6-2, 6-2 in the final at the Magaluf Municipal Sports Centre.

At 21 years of age, the Murcia-based player secured the first WTA 125 title of her career and became only the second champion in the tournament’s history, capping a week in which she established herself as one of the standout performers in the singles draw.

Geerlings produced an assured and aggressive display throughout the final, taking control from the outset and delivering a commanding performance against an opponent who had also enjoyed an impressive run to the championship match.

The victory carries special significance for the Spaniard. After suffering a serious knee injury in August 2025, Geerlings spent close to a year away from the court before returning to competition this past summer. Just three months after her comeback, she has been rewarded for a lengthy rehabilitation process by lifting the most important trophy of her career to date.

The champion entered the main draw thanks to a wild card granted by the Spanish Tennis Federation, an opportunity she seized with both hands to produce one of the finest performances of her career.

Speaking after the final, Geerlings expressed her delight at lifting the trophy in Mallorca. “This has been a very special tournament for me and I am sure I will be back,” said the new Vanda Pharmaceuticals Mallorca Women’s Championships champion.

Tournament ambassador Gabriela Sabatini was among the first to congratulate the Spaniard during the trophy presentation ceremony. “I would like to congratulate Ariana on a wonderful match and on everything she has achieved after such a long spell away from the court through injury,” said the former world No. 3.
