Four seeds made their way into the quarterfinals of the €42,500 Internazionali di Tennis Manerbio on Thursday. The tournament’s number one Gerald Melzer remained untroubled, easing past Italian qualifier Walter Trusendi 6-2, 6-2. Melzer will next face Leonardo Mayer. The fifth seed defeated Nikola Mektic 6-4, 6-4. Mayer fired 10 aces, winning 78% of his first service points to secure victory in one hour and 36 minutes.
Second favourite Taro Daniel edged past Fabiano de Paula 6-1, 6-3. Daniel won 61 of the total 102 points played to set a quarterfinal clash with Filip Krajinovic.
The eighth seed from Serbia beat Adrian Ungur 6-3, 6-4 in the pair’s second meeting of the season. Ungur emerged victorious in Istanbul but Krajinovic was more solid this time. He saved both break points he faced and converted two of his own to prevail in 69 minutes.
