TIBURON, October 2, 2016

Qualifier Michael Mmoh defeated defending champion Tim Smyczek 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 in a closely fought match on Saturday, earning a spot in the finals of the $100,000 Wells Fargo Tiburon Challenger, and knocking the last remaining seeded player out of the men’s singles competition.

The 18-year-old US-American sent down three aces, winning 69 per cent of his first service points and saved one match point to advance to his first title match in two hours and three minutes. Mmoh makes it eight different US-American teens in 12 months to reach an ATP Challenger final.

Mmoh faces Darian King, who prevailed over wild card Mackenzie McDonald 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 in another close match. The world number 165 from Barbados capitalized on seven of his 12 break point chances to prevail in two hours and 12 minutes. King and Mmoh will meet for the first time. King looks to claim his third ATP Challenger title of the season, following his triumphs in Cali and Binghamton.

The doubles finals will see Quentin Halys and Dennis Novikov versus Matt Reid and John-Patrick Smith.
