Stakhovsky Rolls Into Andria Challenger Quarterfinal

Sergiy Stakhovsky has become the first play to reach the quarterfinals of the €42,500 Andria E Castel Del Monte Challenger, held at the local Palasport Arena. The tournament’s top seed from Ukraine beat Andrea Arnabold of Italy 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

Stakhovsky sent down nine aces, winning 90 per cent of his first service points. The World No. 115 didn’t face a break point, converting three of his own to advance in one hour and 15 minutes. Stakhovsky will next take on either Italian Stefano Travaglia or Akkira Santillan of Japan.

Matteo Berrettini followed the Kiev native into the stage of the final eight. The 20-year-old Italian wild card knocked out the tournament’s number two Marco Chiudinelli, winning 7-6, 6-7, 7 -6. Berrettini fired 24 aces and won 52 per cent of the total points played to prevail in two hours and 45 minutes. The World No. 680 will next face Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo, who cruised past Gianluca Mager of Italy 6-4, 6-2 in only 54 minutes.
