MANACOR, November 30, 2016
The Mapfre Spanish National Tennis Championships for Men and Women have been presented this Tuesday at the facilities of the Rafa Nadal Academy in Manacor, which will host the competition from December 12 to 18. The President of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET), Miguel Diaz, presented the details of the event accompanied by the Director of the academy Toni Nadal and the Sports Director of the RFET Javier Soler.
“We want to return to the spirit of the championship in world-class facilities and tennis players in our country,” Miguel Diaz said in a ceremony attended by Antoni Ferragut, President of the Balearic Islands Tennis Federation, and the director of the installations, Víctor Barreira.
Albert Ramos, Jaume Munar, Lara Arruabarrena and Sara Sorribes will join Roberto Bautista-Agut and Pablo Carreno-Busta in the tournament’s line-up. Olympic champions Rafael Nadal and Marc López will team up to compete in the doubles competition. Nadal has never clinched a title at the National Championships. In 2003 he lost to Feliciano López in the singles final.
The finals will be played on Sunday, December 18. The qualification, with a total of 16 participants, will be played on Sunday 11 and Monday 12 December, which is also the start of the main draw with 32 players in both the men’s singles and women’s singles competition.
Last year, Catalan passport holder Steven Díez and Alicante resident ‘Tita’ Torró took the titles in the City of Tennis in Sant Joan Despí in Barcelona.
