Menéndez-Maceiras Wins Samarkand Challenger

SAMARKAND, May 20, 2017

Adrián Menéndez-Maceiras is the champion of the $75,000 Samarkand Challenger, lifting his first trophy on clay since 2009. The fourth seeded Spaniard defeated Aldin Setkic from Bosnia and Herzegovina in Saturday’s singles final 6-4, 6-2.

Menéndez-Maceiras fired 10 aces, winning 89 per cent of his first service points to seal victory in one hour and three minutes. The 31-year-old Marbella resident clinched his second title of the season following his triumph in León. Menéndez-Maceiras takes away $10,800 in prize money as well as 90 ATP ranking points.

On Friday, Laurynas Grigelis of Lithuania and Zdenek Kolar from the Czech Republic captured the doubles title with a 7-6, 6-3 win over the all-Indian-combination of Prajnesh Gunneswaran and Vishnu Vardhan. The encounter lasted one hour and 15 minutes. It was the first team title for Grigelis and Kolar. The tandem shares $4,650 in prize money and 90 ATP ranking points.
