The World No. 101 won all of his first service points and didn’t face a break point to advance after 61 minutes.

“I played better than the day before,” Granollers was pleased with his performance. “I expect another tough fight in the next match.”

Granollers will next take on Jaume Munar, who eased past Cem Ilkel of Turkey 6-2, 7-6. The 20-year-old Spaniard sent down nine aces, winning 76 per cent of his first service games to finish the encounter after one hour and 27 minutes.

Australia’s #NextGenATP player Alex de Minaur overcame Karim-Mohamed Maamoun of Egypt 6-2, 7-6. The 18-year-old Sydney native, who lives in Alicante, saved two of the three break points he faced, converting three of his own to prevail after exactly two hours of play.

“It was another tough match here, as conditions do not allow you to relax for one minute,” the teenanger told. “I am very happy with the way I am playing.”

De Minaur will next play Tallon Griespoor. The 21-year-old from the Netherlands defeated Steven Diez of Canada 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 20 minutes.
