Qualifier Liam Broady took care of business early on Thursday with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Belgian Joris De Loore at the 30th annual $100,000 Nordic Naturals Challenger presented by Santa Cruz County Bank.

After a somewhat unexpected win, the 23-year-old from Great Britian said: “I beat him the last time we played, so I was pretty confident going into this match, especially after qualifying and beating the number 4 seed first round, but I know he’s a good player so I was ready for a battle too.” Broady finished the encounter after one hour and 15 minutes.

Next up for the World No. 336 will be Raymond Sarmiento. The 25-year-old US-American fought past Frenchman Quentin Halys 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Sarmiento capitalized on six of his eight break point chances to prevail after one hour and 49 minutes.

Meanwhile playing on center court, number five seed, Mikhail Kukushkin from Kazkakhstan battled it out with wild card winner Dennis Novikov from the Unites States to result in a 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 win for Novikov. The 23-year-old from San José will next face #NextGenATP player Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan, who handedly defeated third seed Henri Laaksonen from Switzerland, resulting in a final score of 6-1, 6-1 in only 45 minutes.
