FRANKFURT, August 23, 2017
The German Tennis Federation (DTB) announced on Wednesday that Boris Becker will take on the new created position as “Head of Men’s Tennis”. Barbara Rittner will be responsible for the women’s area as “Head of Women’s Tennis”. Her successor as German Fed Cup captain will be Jens Gerlach. The 44-year-old reached ATP doubles ranking of World No. 1102 in 1997.
“We are very happy that in the future we will rely on the world-wide-recognized expertise of Boris Becker and Barbara Rittner in a new, even more responsible role,” DTB-president Ulrich Klaus said during the press conference in Frankfurt.
Becker won six grand slams as a player and was also a former Davis Cup coach for Germany from 1997 to 1999. The 49-year-old had hugely successful years coaching former world number one Novak Djokovic from 2013 to 2016, a period in which the Serbian won six of his 12 major titles.
Becker will also support the German Davis Cup team. “I am looking forward to the exchange with the Davis Cup captain, all the coaches as well as with our best men and juniors,” told Becker.
