The organizers of the Copa Sevilla, held from 2 to 9 September at the local Real Betis Tenis Club, announced on Tuesday that Nicolas Almagro, Alejandro Davidovich, Pedro Cachín and Gerard Granollers have been awarded wild cards into the main draw of the €64,000 ATP Challenger event.
Almagro, the current World No. 92, will be the tournament’s top seed. The 32-year-old Spaniard will compete in his only second event after he was forced to retire in his second round match at Roland Garros against Juan Martin Del Potro due to knee injury. Almagro played last week at the ATP Challenger in Santo Domingo, falling in the second round to Cristian Rodgriguez of Colombia.
18-year-old Davidovich won the juniors title at Wimbledon this year. In June, he finished runner-up at to ITF Futures event at senior’s level.
Cachín has already clinched three ITF Pro Circuit titles this season. All of his trophies came on Spanish soil. The 22-yaer-old Argentine emerged victorious in Jávea, Madrid and Valldoreix.
Gerard Granollers, younger brother of Marcel, comes from reaching the semi-finals at the ATP Challenger of Segovia held at the Villa El Espinar one month ago, where he was defeated by the evenutal champion of the tournament Jaume Munar.
