Lena Rüffer and Yannick Maden captured the mixed doubles title at Germany’s National Tennis Championships held at the WTB-Indoor Tennis Centre in Biberach an der Riß. The pair rallied past Katharina Hobgarski and Rudolf Molleker on Saturday evening 1-6, 6-3, 11-9 in one hour and two minutes.

“It’s nice to end the season with a title,” told Maden, who also hoisted the trohy last year alongside Anna Zaja. The 28-year-old from Stuttgart is currently ranked at a career high World No. 148 and will start the new season at the ATP Challenger event in Bangkok.

“My big goal is to enter the top 100. I would also like to qualify for the main draw of a Grand Slam,” Maden said. His next chance to do so will be in Melbourne in January, when he will compete in the qualfying of the Australian Open.

Singles Finals Are Set

Earlier in the day, Daniel Masur upset World No. 90 and top seed Maximilian Marterer in the semi-final of the men’s singles competition. Both players practice at the TennisBase in Oberhaching but it was the 23-year-old “Wally”, who emerged victorious 6-4, 7-6 in one hour and 28 minutes.

“It’s always tough to play against someone you know that well. We are also good friends but I am happy with my performance today and I am looking forward to the final tomorrow,” told Masur, who finished runner-up to Andreas Beck in 2014.

Masur will face Marvin Möller, who beat Yannick Maden 7-6, 6-2.

In the women’s final, top seed Tamara Korpatsch will take on Katharina Hobgarski. Korpatsch fought past Lara Schmidt 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and Hobgarski defeated third seed Antonia Lottner 7-5, 7-5.
