GRANADA, December 17, 2017

With Carlos Taberner and Paula Badosa two 20-year-olds claimed the singles titles of the MAPFRE Spanish National Tennis Championships held at the Real Sociedad de Tenis de Granada.

In Sunday’s men’s singles final between two players from Valencia, Taberner fought past Pedro Martínez Portero 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

“I am very pleased with the results this week,” told Taberner, who also lifted the doubles trophy alongside Pedro Martínez on Saturday.

“I didn’t expect to win two titles here. It was a pretty tough week but I showed some good level of tennis in the last two matches. I want to further improve in 2018 in order to achieve the best possible results.”

Badosa Prevails

Badosa, who knocked out second favourite and defending champion Lara Arruabarena in the semi-finals, upset top seed Carla Suárez 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in the title match to clinch her second trophy of the season. The World No. 248 hoisted the trophy at the ITF Open Castilla y León El Espinar in August.
