Spain advances to quarterfinals of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas, as Albert Ramos secured the third point for the hosts in their World Group first round tie against Great Britain.
Ramos fought past Cameron Norrie on the clay in Marbella on Sunday, 7-6, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. The 30-year-old from Barcelona, who made his Davis Cup debut on home soil, capitalized on eight of his 14 break point chances to secure victory in four hours and 19 minutes.

“I’m really happy. It was a really good atmosphere today,” Ramos told. “It was a long match, a great match, we both fought a lot. To finish like this is amazing, when you’re two breaks up and serving for the match. Today I played really good in the tie-breaks. This is Davis Cup, it’s not easy to play like a normal tournament, but I think I did a great job.”
On Friday, Ramos opened the tie with a 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 win over Liam Broady followed by a five-set-triumph for Norrie against Roberto Bautista-Agut. Pablo Carreno Busta and Feliciano López put Spain again in front, winning Saturday’s doubles rubber 6-4, 6-4, 7-6 over Dominic Inglot and Jamie Murray.
Spain will next host Germany, who defeated Australia 3-1 in Brisbane.
