LONDON, April 12, 2018 (Press Release)

Two of the most exciting young players in tennis – Nick Kyrgios and Denis Shapovalov – have joined a star-studded line-up at the Fever-Tree Championships.

Kyrgios (22) and Shapovalov (19) will compete against former champions such as Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Marin Cilic, Grigor Dimitrov and Feliciano Lopez when the event gets underway at The Queen’s Club, 18th-24th June. British No.1 Kyle Edmund, a semifinalist at the Australian Open this year, has also committed to play.

“I really want to do well at the Fever-Tree Championships,” said Kyrgios, who beat Nadal in his debut year at Wimbledon, but has yet to win a match at The Queen’s Club. “Grass is a surface I know I can play well on and it frustrates me that I haven’t been able to play my best so far at The Queen’s Club. I was injured last year and I’ve had some rough draws, but I’m confident I can put it together. If I do, I can win it. It’s a great tournament with a lot of history, and I’m pumped to be going back.”

Shapovalov is similarly excited at the prospect, having qualified and then beaten Edmund in the first round a year ago. He then pushed Tomas Berdych to the limit in round 2.

“Those two matches against Edmund and Berdych at Queen’s were a real career-starter for me,” said Shapovalov. “I was still coming from juniors, it was my first full year on the pro tour and I have great memories. I like a lot of things about the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen’s. Obviously the grass is ideal over there. It’s so much fun to play on and the organisation is also so good – it’s really a complete tournament.”

How well does he think he can do on grass?

“I think it’s a really good surface for me,” said Shapovalov. “I think my game really suits grass, I can be really offensive and play my best tennis on it, so I think it really suits me.”

Tournament Director Stephen Farrow said: “Nick Kyrgios and Denis Shapovalov are two young players that people stop what they are doing to watch, and I’m thrilled that they are going to be part of a Fever-Tree Championships line-up with so many of the best players in the world. Nick has yet to get going so far at The Queen’s Club, but we know what he is capable of and hope that he can show it this year. Denis was the player that everyone left the tournament talking about last year and we are delighted that he is coming back.”

Tickets for the Fever-Tree Championships went on sale recently amidst record demand. The tournament’s Centre Court capacity increased by more than 30% last year. The event will be covered throughout by BBC television, radio and online, by Amazon Prime Video for the first time, and around the world in more than 40 countries.
