PARIS, April 12, 2018 (Press Release)
The first phase of the “Roland-Garros Junior Wild-Card Competition by Longines” will begin today, Thursday 12th April, at the Pampulha Iate Clube in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The competition will continue in China, from 23rd to 26th April at the Zhongshang Tennis Club in Nanchang, and in Delhi, India, from 25th to 27th April at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association.
This event, supported by Longines, invites the best boy and girl players from each of these three countries to play each other in clay-court tournaments. The winners from each nation will then travel to Paris to play in the final phase of the competition. If they win in Paris, they will be awarded a wildcard for the main draw of the Junior singles tournament at Roland Garros, which will be held from 3rd to 9th June 2018. The two finals (boys and girls) will take place at Roland Garros stadium on Saturday 26th May, on Court 6, as part of Roland Garros Kids’ Day.
The various qualifying rounds will be attended by well-known ambassadors: actor Jin Dong for the event in China, and tennis players Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares in Brazil.
Through this competition, Longines, Roland Garros’ Official Partner, is continuing to help the French Tennis Federation to develop and promote clay-court tennis worldwide.
Organising the “Roland-Garros Junior Wild-Card Competition by Longines” is just one of the ways that the Federation hopes to increase the French Open’s influence abroad.
