Blaz Kavcic announced to end his Davis Cup career. The 31-year-old from Slovenia played 33 matches for his country and achieved 22 match wins. Kavcic made his debut in 2006 when he beat Algerian Rachid Baba-Aisa 6-0, 6-1.

Together with the Slovenian Davis Cup Team he won the 2010 Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zone Group II, ensuring Slovenia to advance to Europe/Africa Zone Group I. His last match came in 2017 when he beat Lucas Catarina of Monaco in four sets. At the end of January this year, a few days ahead of the start of Slovenia’s tie against Poland, Kavcic got injured and withdrew from his appearance in Maribor.

“I will always be a great fan of Slovenia and the national team. I want to join the team as many times as possible. With Aljaž Bedene and Blaž Rola, this is still a team that can achieve good results in the coming years,” Kavcic stated.

Marko Umberger, President of Slovenian Tennis Federation added: “Blaz was with his will and fighting spirit
an indispensable team member for the Davis Cup and also a great role model for young Slovenian tennis players.
It will be difficult to tackle without him, but I respect his decision and I wish him all the best.”
