GSTAAD, May 3, 2018
Organizers of the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open in Gstaad announced on Thursday the return of Stan Wawrinka to the Bernese Oberland this year. The three-time Grand Slam champion will compete in the ATP 250 clay-court event for the first time in five years. The tournament will be held from 21 to 29 July 2018.
Wawrinka will make his overall 11th appearance in Gstaad. The 33-year-old from Lausanne advanced to the semi-finals in 2008 and finished runner-up in 2005.
“I am highly motivated to play in front of my home crowd. I am really looking forward to the tournament,” Wawrinka commented.
“Stan is the fans’ favourite,” tournament director Jeff Collet stated. “It will enhance the tournament’s status this year even more.”
Wawrinka will be joined by last year’s finalist Fabio Fognini, Roberto Bautista-Agut and #NextGenATP Russian Andrey Rublev.
