Lorenzi Falls In Opening Round At Szczecin Open

Top seed Paolo Lorenzi lost in the opening round of the €127,000 Pekao Szczecin Open. Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol knocked out the World No. 113 from Italy 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 on Monday afternoon.

The 29-year-old Spaniard capitalized on five of his 13 break point opportunities and won four points more than his opponent to prevail after two hours and 16 minutes.

Next up for Gutierrez-Ferrol will be either Spanish teenger Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina, who battled through the qualifying, or Salvatore Caruso, who clinched his maiden ATP Challenger title in Como two weeks ago.

Simone Bolelli fought past Frenchman Kenny de Schepper 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. The No. 8 seeded Italian won 54 per cent of the total points played to seal victory in two hours and 23 minutes. Bolelli will next take on Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil, who beat local wild card entry Pawel Cias 7-5, 6-3.
