Top seed Kyle Edmund is the champion of the Oracle Challenger Series Indian Wells. The 21-year-old Briton defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev 6-3, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Edmund, a first time Oracle Challenger Series participant, was solid on his serve in the title match. The wild card entry sent down nine aces, winning 90 per cent of his first service points and didn’t face one single break point. Edmund finished the encounter after only 54 minutes.

“The field has been very strong, and I knew how dangerous Andrey could be today,” said Edmund, who beat Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo, Lukas Rosol from the Czech Republic, Germany’s Yannick Maden and South African youngster Lloyd Harris en route to his sixth ATP Challenger crown, his first since Rome 2016. He takes away $21,600 in prize money as well as 125 ATP-Rankingn points.

Golubic wins WTA women’s event

The women’s final was a back-and-forth affair, as US-American Jennifer Brady took the first set and was up a break in the second before Viktorija Golubic from Switzerland came storming back to capture the title 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

The No. 14 seed broke her opponent’s serve five times to prevail after two hours and 12 minutes.

“This is Tennis Paradise here, that’s for sure,” said Golubic, who lifted her first trophy of the season. She is clearly excited to continue her time in the desert, continuing her journey in the BNP Paribas Open WTA qualifying draw, which kicks off on Monday.
