Three Italians made it to the quarterfinals on Day 4 at the € 42,500 Manerbio Challenger.
Eighth seed Filippo Volandri defeated Pedro Cachin, winning 6-2, 6-3. The 33-year-old from Livorno won 60% of his first service points and converted six of his 15 break points chances to seal victory in one hour and 33 minutes.
Volandri will face fellow countryman Salvatore Caruso next. The world number 237 from Italy beat Chilean qualifier Christian Garin, winning 6-4, 1-6, 6-3. Caruso withstood nine aces and capitalized on two of his three break points to prevail after one hour and 52 minutes.
Italian qualifier Lorenzo Giustino advanced through a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over sixth seed Hans Podlipnik-Castillo. The 23-year-old produced 10 doubles faults but also fired seven aces to overcome his opponent after two hours and 32 minutes.
Giustino will face third seed Kenny de Schepper, who reached the quarterfinals by walkover, as Pere Riba was not able to compete on Thursday due to right thigh injury.
