“I am very happy to come back to Hamburg – the place, where I was able to experience incredible emotions,” Fognini was quoted in a press release. The 31-year-old Sanremo native will make his eighth appearance in Hamburg, joining Dominic Thiem of Austria in this year’s line-up.
“Fabio is one of the most talented players on the tour. If he keeps playing like that, he will be among the top ten in July,” tournament director Sandra Reichel said. “He’s a guy on the tennis circuit, hovering a bit between genius and madness. Tennis fans love him for showing all his emotions on the court.” And Reichel emphasizes: “Traditionally he feels very comfortable in Hamburg.”
The Hamburg European Open will be held from 20 to 28 July, 2019. For more information and tickets, please visit the tournament’s official website.
