Top seed Pablo Cuevas missed qualifying for the main draw of the Millennium Estoril Open. However, he gained a lucky loser spot after Serbian Filip Krajinovic withdrew from the ATP 250 clay-court event due to a foot injury.
The World No. 67 from Uruguay lost to Salvatore Caruso of Italy in the final round on Sunday 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Caruso struck seven aces, winning 74 per cent of his first service points to advance in two hours and 26 minutes. The pair will now meet in the first round again.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain, Portuguese wild card entry Joao Domingues and Australian young gun Alexei Popyrin also made it into the 28-man draw. The winner will play the tournament’s No. 2 Fabio Fognini of Italy.
