The first part of the second round matches of the € 42,500 ATP Challenger in Como took place on Wednesday, only a bit later than scheduled due to rain.
Third seed Carlos Berlocq had no problems to defeat Fernando Romboli, winning 6-1, 6-2. The world number 141 from Argentina lost his service only once and capitalized on five of his own break point chances to seal victory in 51 minutes.
Berlocq will face Andrea Arnaboldi next. The tournament’s number five from Italy beat his fellow countryman and qualifier Riccardo Bonadio, winning 6-3, 6-4. Arnaboldi hit five aces and saved the only two break points he faced to prevail after one hour and seven minutes.
Seventh seed Andrej Martin emerged victorious from the all-Slovakian-affair, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 against Jozef Kovalik. Martin won 65% of his first service points and converted six of his 15 break point chances to advance after two hours and six minutes.
The 25-year-old from Bratislava will take on Pedro Cachin next. The Argentine dismissed Gianluca Naso, winning 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 23 minutes.
