Four Spaniards were in action on quarterfinals Thursday at the € 42,500 Copa Sevilla Challenger.
In front of about 1,000 spectators, top-seed Pablo Carreῆo-Busta celebrated his first victory over Pere Riba in their second tour meeting. The 24-year-old from Gijón was very solid from the baseline, dictated most of the rallies and hit six aces. Carreῆo-Busta gained the decisive break in the seventh game of the second set and converted his first match point after 67 minutes, winning 6-3, 6-4 to face third favourite Iῆigo Cervantes, who knocked out Renzo Olivo in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-2 in one hour and 20 minutes.
Eighth seed Jordi Samper-Montana has reached his third semi-finals of the season, after he had made it to this stage at the ATP Challengers in Bucaramanga and Santiago earlier this year. The 25-year-old Spaniard rallied back from a set down against Kamil Majchrzak, winning 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. The encounter lasted two hours and 21 minutes.
Samper-Montana will face Pedro Cachin for the first time. The 20-year-old Argentine advanced through a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Milijan Zekic. Cachin won 78% of his first service points and capitalized on three of his nine break points to close the match after two hours and nine minutes.
