Tuesday was another action-packed day for the Tiburon Challenger, with world-class tennis all day long. Three qualifiers progressed into the second round, and the upset of the day came when number-four seed Dustin Brown (GER) bowed out to qualifier Sekou Bangoura (USA), 6-2, 7-5. “Sekou played well, keeping is errors to a minimum, and deserved the victory,” said tournament director Brendan Curry.

Other qualifiers who are advancing are Henri Laaksonen from Switzerland and American Dennis Nevolo. In other play, Wild Card Mackenzie McDonald (USA) won his first round against Frederik Nielsen of Denmark, 6-4, 6-4, and will play Bangoura in the second round.

“We had a marathon third-set super tiebreak in a first-round doubles match between Tim Smyczek/Tennys Sandgren and Carsten Ball/Matt Reid. The crowd were going nuts in this thriller with Ball/Reid taking the match eventually in the third-set match tiebreak,” said Curry.

“Matches start at 11 a.m. tomorrow, and we are no doubt in for another world-class display of tennis,” he added.
