Tobias Kamke won Wednesday’s all-German clash with Johannes Haerteis to reach the third round of the Murray Trophy held at the Scotstoun Leisure Centre in Glasgow. The No. 9 seed from Lübeck capitalized on four of his 12 break point chances to secure a 6-3, 6-4 victory in one hour and 25 minutes.

Kamke, who also beat Haerteis in the pair’s only previous meeting en route to the final of the ATP Challenger in Braunschweig in July, will next take on Antoine Escoffier of France. The 27-year-old upset No. 8 seed Ruben Bemelmans from Belgium 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 17 minutes.

Quentin Halys, No. 3 seed of the €46,600 ATP Challenger event, also booked his spot in the Round of 16. The World No. 180 from France benefited from the retirement of compatriot and last week’s finalist of the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 tournament in Mulhouse, Arthur Rinderknech, after winning the opening set in the tie-break. -Up next for Halys will be No. 14 seeded German Daniel Masur.

Emil Ruusuvuori opened his title bid in Scotland with a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 win over Jonathan Mridha of Sweden. The fourth seed from Finland withstood 11 aces, breaking his opponent’s serve three times to prevail after one hour and 53 minutes. Ruusuvuori, who celebrated his biggest career win over World No. 5 Dominic Thiem at the Davis Cup last weekend, will next face 15th favourite Cem Ilkel of Turkey.
