No. 1 seed Kiki Bertens secures a spot into the quarterfinal at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz after coming back from a set down against Belgian No. 2 Alison Van Uytvanck, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. World No. 8 Bertens has been serving brilliantly and only lost her service game once during the whole match.

“I’m very pleased with the way I played today, I was playing way better than yesterday. I think it was a great match from both players, and it was really fun to be out there,” Bertens said.
Bertens, who is going to face 15-year-old US-American CoCo Gauff from Atlanta, Georgia, seemed to be fairly excited about her quarterfinal match-up.
“I’m really looking forward, because she is a great talent, I’ve never played her before. I think I’m going to feel very old tomorrow. It’s going to be interesting and I’m just trying to do my best.“
21-year-old Viktoria Kuzmova from Slovakia caused a little upset on Show Court after taking out No. 9 seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who has won three WTA indoor titles in her career, including this tournament in Linz back in 2015. Despite having lost the first set pretty comfortably and being outpointed by Pavluychenkova (80-82), Kuzmova went on completing a comeback victory, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to her fifth WTA quarterfinal of the year.
“All good things come in threes” was today’s motto from World. No 46 Kristina Mladenovic, who already lost twice this year to Donna Vekic, but managed to overcome her in three sets this time, winning 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.
“I think in the first set, we both didn’t play our best Tennis and my serving was inexcusable, but I played really well from the baseline which helped me a lot in the last two sets,” the Frenchwoman said afterwards.
Mladenovic advances to her seventh quarterfinal of the year with today’s victory at the WTA International Event, a milestone, which she only achieved twice before in her career (2015 & 2017).
Also in action was No. 8 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, who defeated German qualifier Laura Siegemund in three sets, after an exhausting match that lasted two hours and 42 minutes. She won by the score of 7-6, 2-6, 6-4. On Friday, Kuzmova will face another German player with Andrea Petkovic, who is trying to repeat last year’s run into the semi-finals in Linz.
