KITZBÜHEL, July 9, 2020
The semi-finals of the THIEMs7 presented by Soccercoin tennis exhibition in Kitzbühel, Austria are set. Host Dominic Thiem won his third and last round-robin match on Thursday to clinch the top spot in Group IFA.
However, the World No. 3 had to fight hard against Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany to seal a 6-4, 7-6(3) victory.
“It was a very close match, but that was to be expected against Struff. I am pleased that I played three really good matches against three completely different types of players,” said Thiem, who will take on Roberto Bautista Agut in Friday’s semi-finals. The 32-year-old Spaniard eased past Austria’s Dennis Novak 6-0, 6-1 to finish second in Group Soccercoin.
The Group was won by Matteo Berrettini from Italy, who lost in the night session to Karen Khachanov of Russia 7-6, 6-4. The 24-year-old Rome native will take on Andrey Rublev in the stage of the final four. The World No. 14 from Russia overcame Norwegian young gun Casper Ruud 6-2, 3-6, 10-4.
The semi-finals will start Friday at 1 pm local time.
