KITZBÜHEL, July 11, 2020
Andrey Rublev is the champion of the THIEMs7 presented by Soccercoin tennis exhibition. The 22-year-old Russian defeated host Dominic Thiem 6-2, 5-7, 10-8 on a rain-interrupted Saturday in Kitzbühel, Austria.
“It was a fantastic week. I really enjoyed by time here,” said Rublev, who earned €100,000 in prize money as well as 100,000 Soccercoins, donated by the presenting sponsor.
“It was great for us players to play in front of such an enthusiastic crowd. The atmosphere was really cool and I want to thank everyone who came out to attend the matches. In these difficult times, that’s not to be taken for granted,” said co-organizer Thiem.
“All players are super happy. Of course, Kitzbühel also contributed a lot to this success because it is simply beautiful here. The organizers took care of the health and safety measures, which is very important for the players at the moment. It all worked out perfectly,” added Thiem, who will compete in the bett1ACES in Berlin next week.
Professional tennis will return to Kitzbühel with the 76th edition of the ATP 250 Generali Open to be held on September 7 to 13, 2020.
