STARNBERG, December 21, 2020
Top seeds Viktorija Golubic and Henri Laaksonen were crowned champions of the 2020 Securitas Swiss Champion Trophy. Golubic took the title of the women’s competition without losing a set. The World No. 138 from Zürich defeated 17-year-old Alina Granwehr, Switzerland’s reigning junior’s champion, 6-3, 6-0 in Sunday’s final at the Karl-Heinz Kipp National Tennis Center in Biel.
“I am really happy with the week here, as Alina played really well today. I also felt the tired after many matches,” Golubic said after winning her third national title.
Golubic, who wants to qualify for the Australian Open in Dubai at the beginning of the next season, was particularly happy to get some match practice over the past days. “I haven’t played many matches since September and was therefore very happy that we could play the Swiss Championships and that I was able to play a few matches at the end of the year.”
Laaksonen has captured his sixth title in the men’s competition. The World No. 134 beat 23-year-old Johan Nikles 7-6(4), 6-4 in the final.
“I had long matches against strong opponents, which is ideal to see where I stand and what I still have to improve,” the 28-year-old from Schaffhausen said.
Nikles, who practices in Spain and won an ITF World Tennis tournament in Cairo, Egypt, on clay earlier this month, was delighted with the progress he made on hard court: “Henri played very well and served superb, but I think I was able to challenge him a little, especially that I could get him into the tie-break. In the end, a few details were missing, but I’m still very happy with my performance.”
