The ATP Challenger clay court swing continues in South America with the $50,000 Claro Open in Bucaramanga.
Top-seed Victor Estrella Burgos opened his title bid on Tuesday, winning 7-6, 6-3 against Arthur de Greef. The world number 55 from the Dominican Republic, who lost in the first round of the Australian Open to Daniel Brands and is playing his first tournament in 2016 on the red dirt, didn’t face a break point and converted one of his own to prevail in one hour and 36 minutes. Estrella Burgos will take on the winner of the battle between two qualifiers, when Daniel Elahi Galan from Colombia will face José Hernandez-Fernandez.
Hans Podlipnik-Castillo knocked out fifth seed Rogerio Dutra Silva, winning 6-4, 6-4. The 28-year-old Chilean won 73% of his first service points and saved seven of the eight break points he faced, converting three of his own to seal victory in exactly two hours of play.
Bastian Trinker beat fourth seed Albert Montanes, winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. The 25-year-old Austrian fired 10 aces, lost his service only once and converted three of his seven break points to prevail in two hours and 31 minutes. Trinker will take on Eduardo Struvay, who emegerd victorious from the all-Colombian-affair with Alejandro Gonzalez, winning 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in one hour and 59 minutes.
