BERGAMO, February 13, 2016
Egor Gerasimov and Pierre-Hugues Herbert will compete in Sunday’s final of the €42,500 Internazionali di Tennis Trofeo Perrel-Faip, held at Pala Norda in Bergamo.
In the first semi-final Gerasimov defeated Hiroki Moriya 6-2, 6-3. The 23-year-old from Belarus smashed 11 aces, saved all three break points he faced and capitalized on three of his own to reach his first final of the season after 64 minutes without losing a set.
Herbert emerged victorious from the all-French-affair with qualifier Gregoire Barrere, winning 6-4, 6-4 in the evening session. The 24-year-old Schiltigheim native hit 11 aces and saved the only break he had to take on, converting two of his own to prevail in only 53 minutes.
The current US-Open doubles champion, who is playing his first event since the Australian Open, will meet Gerasimov for the first time on the tour. Herbert is looking for his third ATP Challenger title, after lifting the trohies in Quimper and Mouilleron-Le-Captif last year. Gerasimov’s lone title came in Bratislava 2015.
Ken and Neil Skupski captured the doubles title, winning the final 6-3, 7-5 against all-Croatian-combination of Nikola Mektic and Antonio Sancic in one hour and 13 minutes.
