PUERTO DE LA CRUZ, TENERIFE, October 25, 2021

Tenerife is certainly the place to be for watching professional tennis these days. While the Abama Tennis Academy in Guía de Isora, a municipality in the western part of the largest and most populous island of the Canary Islands, hosted a WTA Tour 250 event last week and is waiting to welcome the cracks of the ATP Challenger Tour the upcoming weekend, the 2021 Campeonato de Canarios Absoluto (National Tennis Championships of the Canary Islands) took place in Puerto de la Cruz.

Played outdoors on an artificial surface, Miguel Garcia Gonzalez and Irene Acevedo Vallesillo were crowned singles champions on Sunday. Top seed Garcia Gonzalez, representing R.C. Náutico de Tenerife, beat Luis Rocha Hernandez and Jorge Camara Allgaier en route to the title match. He defeated No. 2 seed Pablo Marcel Torres Almeida of the C.D. Darrod Tennis Club in Gran Canaria 6-3, 6-1 to lift the trophy.

In the women’s competition, No. 1 seed Acevedo Vallecillo edged out Laura Tapia Gonzalez and Noah Rojas Hernandez to face second favourite Paula Rodriguez Gregoris from Gran Canaria Independiente in the final. The 17-year-old of the Oceanico T.C. in Tenerife prevailed 6-3, 6-1.
