Eva Lys and Henri Squire are the winners of the 50th German National Tennis Championships presented by Tannenhof held on hard court at the WTB Indoor Tennis Centre in Biberach an der Riß.

Lys, representing Hamburg’s Club an der Alster, defeated Mara Guth from TC Bad Vilbel 6-2, 6-4 in Sunday’s women’s final. The 19-year-old, who captured her second career title on the ITF World Tennis Tour in Istanbul this season, dominated the rallies from the baseline and converted her first match point.

“It is an unbelievable feeling to hold the trophy in your hands after such a long and exhausting week. My plan was to play my game and not to look at the result. That worked very well,” Lys said.

In an even men’s title match, Squire of the Rochusclub Düsseldorf battled past Timo Stodder from LTTC “Rot-Weiß” Berlin 7-6(4), 7-6(3). The 21-year-old was rock solid on his serve and had the better ending in both tie-breaks.

“It feels very good to be German champion – especially when you look at the trophy and see which players have already won this tournament. I think we both didn’t play our best tennis today, but after such a mentally stressful week that’s normal. I served well and managed to play aggressively in the tie-breaks, which was a key to win the match,” Squire said.

Both players earned their first National Championships title.
