STUTTGART, March 1, 2022

Nick Kyrgios will play the ATP 250 tournament in Stuttgart hosted by the Tennis Club Weissenhof from June 4 to 12, 2022. This was announced by the organizers of the grass-court event on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old Australian will compete in singles as well as the doubles draw. Alongside his compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis, the pair captured the title of the Australian Open in Melbourne in late January.

Kyrgios, known as the “enfant terrible” of the ATP Tour, will be one of the top contenders for the title due to his strong serve serve and unorthodox style of play, especially on grass. That was also the case in Stuttgart in 2018, when he lost in a dramatic semi-final in the tie-break of the third set to eventual tournament champion Roger Federer. Kyrgios already demonstrated his qualities on grass in 2014 as a 19-year-old when he reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. In addition to his compatriot Lleyton Hewitt, he is the only player who won each of his first duels against the “Top 3” beating Rafael Nadal 2014 in Wimbledon, Roger Federer 2015 in Madrid and Novak Djokovic 2017 in Acapulco.

“I have great memories from Stuttgart, so I’m really looking forward to coming back to the Weissenhof this year and hopefully seeing a lot of tennis fans attending our matches. I hope that I will be successful and that I can play as many matches as possible in order to be well prepared for the Grand Slam in Wimbledon,” said Kyrgios.

Tickets for the event are now on sale. For more information, please visit the tournament’s official ticket shop.
