Alexei Popyrin has clinched his first title of the season by winning the 13th edition of the BNP Paribas Primrose held at the Villa Primrose in Bordeaux, France. The unseeded Australian overcame Quentin Halys, home favourite and No. 6 seed of the €134,920 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament, 2-6, 7-6(5), 7-6(4) in Sunday’s singles final.
Popyrin fought his way to the championship through the bottom half of the draw with wins over Belgian lucky loser Kimmer Coppejans, fourth favourite Carlos Taberner of Spain, fifth-seeded Spaniard Jaume Munar and Andrea Pellegrini from Italy.
The World No. 127 withstood 24 aces in the title match, won four points less than Halys but was wide awake in the crucial situations of the tie-breaks to secure victory in two hours and 30 minutes.

By lifting his second ATP Challenger Tour career title following his maiden triumph in Jinan, China four years ago and in addition to his Singapore Tennis Open ATP Tour trophy last year, Popyrin pocketed €18,290 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points.
Matos/Vega Hernandez prevail in doubles
In other action, Brazilian Rafael Matos and David Vega Hernandez of Spain claimed the doubles title. The top seeds beat No. 2 seeds Hugo Nys from Monaco Jan Zielinski of Poland 6-4, 6-0 in the final, which lasted one hour and eight minutes.
By winning their second team title after Marrakech earlier in the season, Matos and Vega Hernandez split €7,870 in prize money and earned 125 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
