Dan Evans is the champion of the Rothesay Open Nottingham. The top seed of the €134,920 ATP Challenger Tour grass-court event did not drop a set all week, finishing off his title run with a 6-4, 6-4 win on Sunday against Australian Jordan Thompson, who clinched the Surbiton Trophy last week.

In his third Nottingham final, 2019 winner Evans capitalized on four of his seven break-point chances to secure victory in one hour and 50 minutes.

“It was a good match. Thommo’s had a great two weeks. It’s not easy playing a good friend,” said Evans.

“It was nice to see him in the final again. I couldn’t let him take back-to-backs. I’d hear too much about it. It’s a great week. I love it here.

“The quality of players here is always very high. It does make me feel very good to win. I’ve got a tough match next week and it’s time to go down to London and prepare.”

By lifting his ninth ATP Challenger Tour career trophy, his third on grass, the 32-year-old Briton earned €18,290 in prize money as well as 125 ATP Ranking points and will climb four places in the rankings on Monday from 35 to 31.

Evans will hope to continue his strong form at next week’s cinch Championships at The Queen’s Club, where he faces defending champion and freshly-crowned Stuttgart titlist Matteo Berrettini in the opening round.
