The Platzmann Sauerland Open are set to return in 2023 for the third edition of the ATP Challenger Tour tournament. The clay-court event is scheduled for July 30 to August 6 at the Stadtpark Lüdenscheid, Germany, and will be part of the Challenger 100 series. The total prize money will increase from €44,820 to more than €118,000. This was announced by the organizers on Wednesday.
“We are very pleased that with the third edition of the Platzmann Open we will have the opportunity to take a step forward in development,” says tournament director Rogier Wassen. “A special thanks go to our sponsors who make this upgrade possible giving us a chance to host a Challenger 100 tournament. The preparations have already started and again we want to offer a great event for the tennis fans.”

This year’s tournament was held during the second week of Wimbledon when Serbian teenager Hamad Medjedovic captured his maiden ATP Challenger crown.
“With the new date between the Hamburg European Open and the Challenger in Meerbusch, we want to become even more attractive for players who are in the Top 100 of the ATP Rankings. Of course, we would also like to see more German players being part of the line-up,” said Wassen.
Pre-sale tickets for the tournament will be available in spring 2023.
