ORTISEI/STARNBERG, October 14, 2022
Andreas Seppi will retire from professional tennis at the end of the month by playing his home tournament in Ortisei. The 38-year-old Italian, who was born in Bolzano, South Tyrol, will compete for a last time at the Sparkasse Challenger Val Gardena Südtirol. The €45,730 ATP Challenger hard-court event will be held at the Tennis Club Ortisei from October 23 to 30.
“He has confirmed his participation today,” tournament director Ambros Hofer stated in a press release on Friday. Seppi is the only player in the 12-year-long history of the event, who captured the title twice, in 2013 and 2014. He also finished runner-up in 2012 and advanced to the quarterfinals five years later.
Seppi reached a career-high ranking of World No. 18 in January 2013. The Italian lifted 10 career trophies on the ATP Challenger Tour and captured three titles on the ATP Tour.
The current World No. 257 will play his first-round match on Tuesday, October 25.
