The popular “Tom’s Talk,” featuring former World No. 1 Thomas Muster is being held daily at the Info Point in the Foyer of Hall D at the Wiener Stadthalle. Fans attending the Erste Bank Open tennis are welcome to stop by and watch on site as Muster, the first Austrian to win a Grand Slam singles title, interviews fellow Austrian athletes and newsmakers.
Monday’s opening day guest was former Austrian tennis star-turned-TV presenter Barbara Schett, who talked about her book Ich Bin Was Ich Bin (I Am What I Am), while Tuesday’s guest was Austrian Olympic snowboard champion Alessandro Hämmerle.

Schwartman, Coric experience Vienna by boat

Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman and Borna Coric of Croatia each took a spell at the wheel during a pre-tournament boat trip on the Danube River over the weekend. Each of the players were educated in the navigation and handling a boat by DDSG-Blue Danube fleet captain Johannes Kammerer.
Schwartzman and Coric also hit a few balls on a mini tennis court on the boat in front of tournament director Herwig Straka.
“It was amazing,” Schwartzman said of his boat outing. “Seeing Vienna from a boat is a great experience.”
Wednesday is Austrian National Day holiday
Austrian National Day will be celebrated at the Erste Bank Open on Wednesday. Play will begin in Wiener Stadthalle at noon and a full order of play will take place featuring the tournament’s top two seeds, Daniil Medvedev of Russia and Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.
The Austrian holiday also recognizes Day of the Austrian Flag, declaring the re-establishment of Austria’s sovereignty after World War II. This decision for neutrality became part of the national consciousness of Austrians.

Around the Erste Bank Open
On Tuesday evening, Austria’s favorite son Dominic Thiem proved there’s no place like home. He won his 16th career Vienna match with a 2-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (6) victory over Tommy Paul to advance to Thursday’s second round. The 2019 Erste Bank Open champion now has amassed 36 career wins in Austria (Vienna, Kitzbühel, Davis Cup).
