ATLANTA, July 24, 2023 (Press Release)
The Main Draw for singles competition at the 2023 Atlanta Open has been announced for this year’s ATP tournament. Main Draw matches will begin on Monday, July 24, with the first matches slated for 11:00 a.m. EST.
For Georgia tennis fans, the Main Draw has plenty of Peach State flavor to follow:
Atlanta native Chris Eubanks is scheduled to play his first match on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Eubanks has risen to a career-high world ranking of 31 after an impressive run at Wimbledon. His hot streak came to an end in the Wimbledon quarterfinals as No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev rallied to win 6-4, 1-6, 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1. Eubanks captured his first ATP Tour title on July 1 at the Mallorca Championships in Mallorca, Spain. A two-time All-American at Georgia Tech, he also was two-time ACC Player of the Year. Eubanks will face Georgia Tech’s Andres Martin, as part of College Night. Martin also competed in the 2022 Atlanta Open as a wild card, defeating Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis.
University of Georgia redshirt freshman Ethan Quinn, who received a wild card invitation into the Main Draw, will play on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. Quinn became just the fourth freshman to win the NCAA Singles National Championship in May. Quinn joined the elite company of Mikael Pernfors (1984, 1985) and Matias Boeker (2001, 2002) as the only Bulldogs to capture the NCAA national singles title.
One of the most decorated players in Georgia Tech history, current Yellowjackets Assistant Coach Kevin King is also competing in the Doubles Main Draw. In doubles, King has paired up with Martin, as the duo have been granted a doubles Main Draw wild card invitation and will play Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.
