It will be an Argentine-Brazilian-final at the €85,000 Open du Pays d’Aix Trophee Caisse d’Erpagne when Carlos Berlocq will take on Thiago Monteiro in Sunday’s title match.
Berlocq knocked out with the tournament’s number six Elias Ymer the last remaining seed in the draw, winning 6-2, 6-7, 6-0. The 33-year-old from Buenos Aires converted seven of his 16 break point chances to prevail in two hours and 22 minutes.
In the second semi-final, Monteiro defeated Renzo Olivo 6-3, 6-3. The world number 189 from Rio de Janeiro won 65% of his first service points and capitalized on four of his eight break point opportunities to advance after one hour and 30 minutes.
Berlocq and Monteiro will meet for the first time. The 21-year-old Brazilian will appear in his first final on the ATP Challenger Tour. The Argentine veteran eyes on lifting his first trophy since winning the Sao Paulo Challenger title last year.
Later the afternoon, Austrian pair of Oliver Marach and Philipp Oswald captured the doubles title with a 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 victory over Guillermo Duran and Maximo Gonzalez. The encounter lasted one hour and 17 minutes.
