Anna Bondar is the big winner of the ECE Ladies Hamburg Open 2024. The Hungarian claimed victory at the WTA 125 tournament at the Rothenbaum Tennis Complex in front of around 2,000 spectators, winning both the singles and doubles titles. After her convincing 6-4, 6-2 win over last year’s champion Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands in the singles final, she, alongside her partner Kimberley Zimmermann from Belgium, defeated Rus and Serbian Nina Stojanovic 5-7, 6-3, 11-9 in the doubles final.

Singles Final

In the singles final, Bondar delivered a tactical masterclass, skillfully countering the offensive game of the Dutch defending champion and excelling particularly in return play. By taking the first set 6-4, she handed Rus her first set loss of the entire tournament week and continued to dominate the match. Bondar displayed remarkable mental strength, not allowing a single break point in the second set, and after 97 minutes, she converted her first match point to win 6-4, 6-2.

“I participated in this tournament for the first time, and I felt very welcome right from the start. I am very happy to have won my second WTA title here. It was a tough match and a challenging week. Thank you to all the fans who cheered us on so much,” Bondar said.

This victory marked Bondar’s second WTA career title, having first lifted a trophy in 2021 at the WTA 125 tournament in Buenos Aires. Just last week, she triumphed at the ITF World Tennis Tour tournament in Hechingen, making it ten consecutive singles match wins on the tour. In Hamburg, former Hungarian ATP player Peter Nagy was by her side as her coach for the first time. For her triumph in Hamburg, Bondar received a prize money of €13,040 and improved her world ranking to 78th place.

Doubles Final

After her success in singles, Bondar was determined to also take home the doubles winner’s trophy. Together with her partner and good friend Kimberley Zimmermann, she rallied after losing the first set and fended off two match points in the match tiebreak. In the end, Bondar and Zimmermann celebrated a thrilling 5-7, 6-3, 11-9 victory over Rus and Stojanovic after one hour and 46 minutes.
