MOGI DAS CRUZES/STARNBERG, December 15, 2024
Ana Candiotto, seeking her first professional singles title, will represent Brazil in the final of the Sao Paulo Tennis Classic – Ano III, taking place this Sunday in Mogi das Cruzes. In Saturday’s semi-final, Candiotto, supported by a cheering home crowd at the Kosmos Clube, defeated Switzerland’s Marie Mettraux 6-2, 7-5 in a match lasting over 90 minutes. With this victory, she matched her career-best result and will face Ecuador’s Camila Romero, who prevailed against Chile’s Fernanda Labrana 6-2, 3-6, 7-6. This will be Romero’s first professional final.
“This achievement means so much to me, my team, and my family. I’m incredibly proud and grateful,” Cadiotto said. Reflecting on her upcoming match, the 20-year-old added, “I feel ready and confident. I want to give my best performance with intensity and composure to claim the title. I hope the fans, who were a huge help today, will support me again.”
In the other semifinal, Romero battled for over three hours to secure her spot. She acknowledged the toughness of her opponent and expressed excitement for her first final. “Tomorrow is a big moment for me. Ana is a strong rival, but I’ll fight for every point and aim for the victory,” said the 26-year-old.
This final marks the third meeting between Candiotto and Romero, with the Brazilian winning both prior encounters. The ITF World Tennis Tour W15 clay-court tournament offers a total prize pool of $15,000, and the champion will earn 15 WTA ranking points.
