Joao Fonseca reached another milestone in his rapid ascent on Sunday. The 18-year-old Brazilian claimed the Arizona Tennis Classic title, making him the second-youngest South American player—after Juan Martin del Potro—to secure three ATP Challenger Tour championships.

Fonseca defeated Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan 7-6(5), 7-6(0) in the singles final in Phonix. The teenager from Rio de Janeiro, who captured his maiden tour-level title in at the Argentina Open in Buenos Aires last month, withstood 15 aces and broke his opponent’s serve two times. Fonscea won 53 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 43 minutes.

“It is my third Challenger title, so just super happy with this one,” said Fonseca, who triumphed last year at Challenger level in Lexington, Kentucky and earlier this season in Canberra, Australia. “This one was really important to me after losing to [Jack] Draper last week. Having a good run at this Challenger, a 175, but it could be like an ATP 250 by the ranking of the players, easily. It was super, super hard.”

Fonseca collected $38,420 in prize money as well as 175 ATP Ranking points.

The fifth edition of the Arizona Tennis Classic offered a total prize pool of $250,000 and was held at the Phoenix Country Cub, in the vibrant capital of the Grand Canyon State and the fifth-largest city in the United States. Known for its year-round sunshine, stunning desert landscapes, and outdoor recreational opportunities, Phoenix is a hub for business, culture, and tourism.

The city boasts a thriving arts scene, world-class golf courses, and iconic attractions like Camelback Mountain and the Desert Botanical Garden. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy teams from all major leagues, while food lovers can indulge in a diverse culinary scene.
