OPATIJA/STARNBERG, March 30, 2025
Croatian Luka Mikrut (ATP 360) emerged victorious in the final leg of the 53rd edition of the Istarska Rivijera, securing the singles title in Opatija. On Sunday, at the Tennis Club Opatija courts, he defeated Macedonian Kalin Ivanovski (ATP 1352) in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (4), to claim his fourth ITF World Tennis Tour singles title.
Although 20-year-old Ivanovski had to battle through the qualifying rounds, he proved to be Mikrut’s toughest challenge in the tournament. Before the final, Mikrut had dropped only 15 games across four matches. In the opening set, a single break at 3-1 was enough for the top seed to take control and secure the set.
The second set saw Ivanovski fight back, breaking early for a 3-0 lead. However, Mikrut responded with three consecutive games, leveling the score at 4-4. At 5-5, Mikrut secured another crucial break, giving him the opportunity to serve for the championship. Ivanovski showed resilience, saving one match point and forcing a tie-break, but Mikrut dominated, building a 5-2 lead before converting his second match point at 6-4, closing the match after one hour and 56 minutes.
This victory marks Mikrut’s first singles title at the Istarska Rivijera tournament series, adding to his five doubles titles won in 2023 and 2024. It also becomes his fourth career singles title on the ITF World Tennis Tour, following wins in Osijek (2023), Bol (2024), and Antalya, Turkey (2024).
For his triumph, Mikrut earned 15 ATP Ranking points and a prize of $2,160.
Meanwhile, Kalin Ivanovski was playing in his ninth ITF World Tour final, his first in almost two years, but remains with five career titles. In Opatija, he earned eight ATP Ranking points and a prize of $1,272 USD.
